According to legend, there is a little gnome named Saunatonttu who lives in the Sauna and who must be treated with respect (by keeping the sacred fire lit and leaving food outside the sauna) in order to enjoy his protection and avoid his punishments.

This is the original sauna in the strict sense of the word, in which temperatures can reach 80-90° Celsius, inducing beneficial skin perspiration, while the humidity does not rise above 10-20%, except for when water is poured on the volcanic stones.
